So I've shot about 6 basketball games, and we're not even into conference play yet.
After a terrible game on Friday, I redeemed myself tonight. OSU steamrolled Jackson State by almost 50 points and I got some good stuff.

Torre Johnson, who's in both shots, is a promising newcomer. Once the team gets used to each other, things should be interesting.
On a side note, Eddie Sutton was back in action after being absent from Friday's game. Word 'round the campfire was that he had some pretty bad back pains. He looked rough tonight - walking slowly and hunching over. It'll be interesting to see how his health affects his ability to coach.

Hey man, nice blog! Im a hobby photog and its cool reading about someone else's thought process while out shooting. What lens are you using for the B-ball games? Indoor sports are kicking my butt.
Thanks. For indoor bball I use a 2.8 70-200mm Sigma lens. Luckily, Gallagher-Iba arena is really well-lit, and I can shoot 1/500th at ISO 800.
I haven't had much experience in dimly-lit stadiums, so I don't know if I'll be of much help. I'd say shoot with your aperture wide open, ISO as high as you're comfortable with and shutter speed at around 1/400th. You could probably go lower on the shutter speed, it just depends how much motion blur you're willing to have.
If you're shooting at a high-school arena, ask someone if a flash would be ok. They're usually pretty lenient, from what I've heard. Good luck!
2.8? I wish I could afford such a nice piece of glass.
I know what you mean. The glass actually belongs to the paper I work for. I'm counting the days until I have one of my own.
